Local termite treatment, when a tent is not the answer
Not every termite problem needs a tent. Some drywood activity is contained enough to treat in place, and subterranean termites are treated at the soil instead. Here is what each can do, and when a tent is honestly the better call.
A termite inspection is a licensed inspector’s visual examination of your property for termites, other wood-destroying pests, and the damage and conditions that come with them. You get a written report of what was found, where it was found, and what we recommend. Orange County Fumigation inspects across Orange County. Call 657-608-2488.
Not sure if you need the tent?
Tell us what you are seeing. We will inspect and tell you honestly whether a localized treatment fits or whether the structure needs tenting.

Home / Fumigation Services / Local Termite Treatment
The short version
Does fumigation kill bed bug eggs?
Yes. Whole-structure fumigation is what sets it apart from many other methods: because the fumigant is a gas that fills the sealed structure, it reaches bed bugs at every life stage, including eggs, in the places sprays and treatments often miss.
Is fumigation better than heat treatment?
Not always. Heat can be the right call for a contained, single-room problem. Fumigation is the stronger answer when the infestation is severe, spread across the home, or moving through a multi-unit building, where heat and spot treatment keep coming up short.
Do I have to throw out my furniture?
Usually not. One reason people choose whole-house fumigation is that the gas penetrates mattresses, upholstered furniture, and belongings inside the sealed structure, so you can often keep items that would otherwise be discarded. We confirm the plan for your home.
What local termite treatment actually is
Local termite treatment is our name for termite work that does not involve tenting the structure, and it covers two different situations. The first is drywood termites active in one specific area, where the work is a spot treatment of that area rather than sealing and treating the whole structure. When a problem is small, reachable, and confirmed to be limited to one place, treating that place directly can clear it without emptying the house. The trade is simple to state: a localized treatment only reaches what can be reached.
That single limit is the whole story of when it fits and when it does not. If an inspection finds one accessible pocket of activity, a targeted treatment is often the honest, better-fit choice. If the same inspection finds activity in several places, hidden inside walls and framing, or spread further than anyone can confirm, then a localized treatment would leave termites behind, and whole-structure fumigation becomes the reliable answer. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you a smaller job that does not hold.
The second situation is subterranean termites, and it works differently because the pest does. A subterranean colony lives in the soil rather than in the wood, so there is no accessible pocket to spot treat and no benefit to tenting a structure the colony is not inside. That work is termite perimeter treatment of the soil around the building, a termite bait program, or both, decided at inspection. What the two situations share is that neither one needs a tent. See subterranean termites for how to tell whether that is what you have.
Our rule: we recommend the treatment that actually clears the problem. Sometimes that is a localized treatment and no tent. Sometimes it is the tent. The inspection, not the sale, decides.

What a localized treatment can and cannot do
A localized drywood treatment can be the right call when
- Drywood activity is confined to one small, accessible area
- The affected wood can be reached and treated directly
- An inspection confirms the problem is truly contained
- You want to protect a specific piece of exposed bare wood
- You caught the problem early, before it spread
In these cases a targeted treatment can clear the activity without tenting the whole home. Your inspector confirms it is the right fit for your property.
It is not enough, and the tent is the call, when
- Drywood termites are widespread across the structure
- Activity is hidden inside walls, framing, or areas we cannot reach
- Termites are established in several separate places
- The full extent of the infestation cannot be confirmed
- A localized treatment has already been tried and fallen short
When any of these is true, a spot treatment would leave termites behind. Whole-structure fumigation treats the building as one sealed space and is the reliable fix. See whole-structure termite fumigation.
Subterranean termites are a separate case.
Neither column above applies to them. Their colony lives in the soil and not in the structure, so there is no contained pocket to spot treat, and tenting the building leaves the colony untouched. They are treated at the ground instead, with termite perimeter treatment, a termite bait program, or both. See subterranean termites.
If a spot treatment will not hold, we will tell you to tent. That is the honest call.
Local termite treatment at a glance
What it is
Termite work that does not require tenting. For drywood, a targeted treatment of the specific accessible area where termites are active. For subterranean termites, treatment at the soil around the structure
Also called
Spot treatment, localized treatment, or no-tent termite treatment
Subterranean termites
Treated with termite perimeter treatment of the soil around the structure, a termite bait program, or both, decided at inspection. A tent is not the answer for this pest. See subterranean termites
Best for
A small, contained drywood problem that an inspection confirms is reachable, or a confirmed subterranean problem of any size
Not enough when
Drywood termites are widespread, hidden, in several areas, or the full extent cannot be confirmed. That belongs to whole-structure fumigation. This limit is about drywood and does not apply to subterranean work
What it reaches
Only the accessible spot or wood that can be treated directly. It cannot reach hidden or spread-out activity
How the call is made
By inspection. The extent of the activity, not a preference to avoid tenting, decides the treatment
What it asks of you
Usually simpler than a tent. Specific requirements are confirmed by your inspector for your home
Warranty
Our flat 2-year retreatment warranty applies to whole-structure fumigation work. It does not extend to inspection, or to any non-fumigation treatment, including localized and subterranean perimeter and bait work. Terms for those are confirmed with your written estimate

Some termite problems belong to the tent, and we will say so
A localized treatment is honest only when the problem is honestly contained. When drywood termites are spread across the structure, hidden where a targeted treatment cannot reach, sitting in several separate areas, or extensive enough that no one can confirm the full picture, the reliable fix is whole-structure fumigation. Sealing the building and treating it as one space is the only way to reach activity that a spot treatment would miss. All of that is about drywood termites. Subterranean termites are the one case where tenting does not become the answer no matter how extensive the problem is, because the colony is not inside the structure to begin with.
We do not walk through the preparation, the fumigants used, or how a home is aired out and cleared on this page. That lives in one place so it stays consistent. See whole-structure termite fumigation for the service and the fumigation process for every step. What does not change: for any tenting, everyone and every pet leaves for the full treatment, and no one returns until a clearance is posted.
The rule we do not bend: after any whole-structure fumigation, a home is safe to enter again only when a clearance is posted. Never on the clock, never on the smell, never because the crew has left.

Comparing localized treatment to heat and tenting?
No, and there is nothing to come to. We are a mobile fumigation company, so the crew, the equipment and the work all travel to your property. There is no counter, no showroom and no public address, because none of those would do anything for you.
In practice that works in your favour. Nothing has to be brought to us, nothing has to be dropped off, and you do not need to take a morning off to go somewhere and describe a problem that is easier to look at in person. Where we work is set out in full on our service areas page.

One signal only: a fumigated home is safe to enter again when a clearance is posted. For a localized treatment, your inspector confirms what your home needs before and after the work.
What each treatment asks of you
Being honest about fit means being honest about what a treatment requires. A localized treatment usually asks less of a household than a tent, but the specific requirements depend on the area being treated, and your inspector confirms them for your home before any work begins. We do not print a one-size safety profile for it, because the honest answer depends on your property.
Whole-structure fumigation is different, and its rules do not bend. Everyone and every pet leaves for the full treatment, and no one comes back until a clearance is posted. We do not re-explain the preparation, the fumigants used, or how a home is aired out and cleared on this page. That belongs in one place so it stays consistent. See the fumigation process for every step.

What is a WDO report?
A wood-destroying organism report is a licensed inspector’s written findings on termites and other wood-destroying pests in a property, along with any related damage. It is the document escrow and lenders look at during a sale.
Does a report mean I have to tent the house?
Not always. The report tells us how widespread the activity is. Some findings clear with a localized treatment or a wood repair, and only widespread drywood activity calls for whole-structure fumigation. We tell you honestly which your home needs.
Can you meet my closing date?
We schedule the inspection quickly and work the treatment and certification around your escrow timeline. Tell us your closing date up front and we build the plan backward from it.

Local termite treatment, answered
Straight answers to what Orange County homeowners ask when they are hoping to skip the tent. For your specific home, call or text 657-608-2488.
What is local termite treatment?
Local termite treatment is our name for termite work that does not involve tenting. It covers two situations. Drywood termites active in one specific, accessible area can often be treated in place. Subterranean termites are treated at the soil around the structure, with perimeter treatment, a termite bait program, or both. Neither needs a tent, and an inspection is what tells you which situation you are in.
Can a spot treatment replace whole-structure fumigation?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. When drywood termites are limited to one small, accessible area, a localized treatment can clear the problem without tenting. When they are widespread, hidden inside the structure, or in several places, a spot treatment would leave termites behind, and whole-structure fumigation is the reliable fix. An inspection is what tells the two situations apart. This question is about drywood. Subterranean termites are not a spot-treatment case and are not a tenting case either.
Does this work on subterranean termites?
Yes, and it is the only kind of termite treatment that does. A subterranean colony lives in the soil rather than in the wood, so tenting the structure leaves the colony in place. The work is termite perimeter treatment of the soil around the building, a termite bait program, or both, decided at inspection. The pest itself is covered on subterranean termites.
When is a localized termite treatment not enough?
For drywood activity, when it is spread across the structure, hidden where a targeted treatment cannot reach, established in several separate areas, or extensive enough that the full picture cannot be confirmed. In any of those cases, treating one spot leaves the rest, so we route you up to whole-structure fumigation and explain why. We would rather do that than sell a smaller job that does not hold.
How do you know if my termite problem is contained enough for a spot treatment?
By inspection, for drywood activity. We look at how much activity there is, where it sits, and whether it is limited to areas we can reach and treat directly. If the inspection confirms the problem is truly contained, a localized treatment is on the table. If it finds more than that, we say so. The extent of the activity, not a preference to avoid tenting, decides the treatment.
Do I have to leave my home for a localized termite treatment?
A localized treatment usually asks less of a household than a tent, but the specific requirements depend on the area being treated, and your inspector confirms them for your home before any work begins. Whole-structure fumigation is different: everyone and every pet leaves for the full treatment, and no one returns until a clearance is posted.
Does local termite treatment come with a warranty?
Our flat 2-year retreatment warranty applies to whole-structure fumigation work. It does not extend to inspection, or to any non-fumigation treatment whatever it is called, including localized treatment and subterranean perimeter and bait work. Terms for those are confirmed in writing with your estimate, so you know exactly what is covered before any work begins. We keep this clear rather than implying non-fumigation work carries the same term as a full fumigation.
Why would a fumigation company recommend not tenting?
Because our name is worth more than a single job. When a localized treatment genuinely fits, recommending a tent you do not need would be dishonest, and it is how a company loses the next customer and the referral. We recommend the treatment that actually clears the problem, whether that is a spot treatment or the tent, and we put the reasoning in writing.
Is heat treatment or spot treatment better for my termites?
That is a comparison worth making carefully, and we keep the full, honest side-by-side of localized treatment, heat, and whole-structure fumigation in one place so it stays fair and consistent. This page covers the localized, no-tent case in detail. For the full comparison, see our fumigation alternatives page.
What areas do you serve?
We serve homes throughout Orange County, including Santa Ana, Anaheim, Yorba Linda, Garden Grove, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Tustin, Orange, and Brea. We are a mobile company and come to you, so we do not operate a walk-in location.
